Each year the Lion's Club of Coppell provides holiday baskets and toys to families in the Coppell ISD attendance area. Last year the Lion's Club provided a special Christmas for over 100 families for children who might otherwise have gone without. The food baskets and toys are delivered by members of the Lion's Club, and the identity of the recipients is kept confidential. If your family would benefit from a holiday basket and toys from the Lion's Club, please complete THIS FORM and return it to TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock, by Friday, December 6th. Email kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you would like a paper copy sent home.
Metrocrest Services
Metrocrest Services provides two seasonal support options for families:
The Thanksgiving Food program provides holiday favorites such as turkey, dressing, and food to help you and your family during the Thanksgiving holiday break.
The Holiday program makes the holiday season a little brighter by allowing parents to go to our holiday store and choose unwrapped toys for their children. In addition, participants can pick up non-perishable food and winter coats for the family.

Language Arts
- Phonics - We will talk about two different ways to make the long /e/ sound when spelling /ee/ and /e/. We are also working on substituting first sounds in words to create new words either with a single sound or with a blend (two consonants together).
- Reading - We will do activities with our 22 new sight words to help us be able to read these words in a "snap" as well as write them. We are enjoying our new choice books in our bags and using our reading strategies to solve tricky words. We will learn how to build good reading habits with these books.
- Writing - We will finish up writing reviews and learning how to give our opinion to influence others in a positive way. When we review something we must have reasons to back up our review.
Math
We will continue decomposing numbers to 100 in different ways while practicing our addition and subtraction strategies. Additionally, we'll practice skip counting to 120 by fives and tens. Please continue to practice skip counting to 120 with your child at home. It makes a big difference! Thank you for the support!
Math Take-Home Activity
Keeping children entertained during long car rides can be challenging, but incorporating math games can make the journey fun and educational. Here are a few creative ideas to try:
- License Plate Math: Have your child look at the numbers on passing license plates and perform different math operations. For example, add the digits together, and try to create the largest possible number using the digits.
- Number Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of numbers and challenge your child to find them on road signs, buildings, or other cars. This game can help improve number recognition and observational skills.
- Counting Cars: Choose a color or type of vehicle, and see who can count the most of that kind within a certain time frame. This game encourages quick thinking and sharpens counting skills.
- Math Story Problems: Create simple word problems related to your journey. For instance, "If we travel 60 miles in one hour, how far will we travel in three hours?" Tailor the difficulty to suit your child's level.
Encourage your child to tackle a problem by making it engaging with a personal twist. For instance, "We visited Target and picked up some Pokemon cards. I handed 3 to your brother, and now I have 7 left. How many cards did I start with?"
Number Practice
Help your child practice counting to 120 by ones, tens, and fives to reinforce their number skills! Let's work together to build a strong foundation in math that will help us in all areas of life. Happy counting!

- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

1B Mrs. Brown (science and social studies teacher) ebrown@coppellisd.com

School Lunches
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval. Please fill out a form in the office for any visitors other than who is listed as guardians in your child's record.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria. If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be eaten at school. Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
