Weekly  Announcements

Hello First Grade Parents!

The other room moms (Heather & Stacy) and I are asking for item donations for this year's First Grade Auction Basket!

The Auction Basket is a collection of themed items donated by parents and presented to the students as a large gift basket. An Auction Basket from each grade will be displayed on the cafeteria stage during school the week of April 4. Students will get to purchase raffle tickets during lunch, and select the basket they'd like a chance to win. The winner of each grade's basket will be announced during the 30th Anniversary Party/Family Picnic on April 11th. The purchasing of the raffle tickets for the Auction Baskets is our big fundraiser for the Spring.

This year's First Grade Auction Basket Theme: "Family Game Night"

I have created a SIGN UP GENIUS that you can sign up for the different items for our Auction Basket.

I have put in some game suggestions, but you can choose a similar game if you like! (Please enter into the comment field what game you buy if you decide to get something different -- we are trying to avoid duplicates). Please, NEW items only!

After you have signed up and purchased your donation, please drop off your item(s) at Heather Ede's House between March 24-26. (You can leave items on her porch.)

Heather Ede's address:
133 Pecan Hollow Dr.

Zoo Field Trip......

If you plan on chaperoning for our zoo field trip you will need a current background check on file. It is important to note that this process can take up to 2 weeks and you will not be able to chaperone without a completed background check.

All field trip money and permission slips are due Friday, April 4th.

Please click here or scan the QR code below to complete the district background check form. If you have any questions about this process the office is more than happy to help you troubleshoot.

What Will We Be Learning Next Week?

Language Arts

Phonics/Grammar - Next week we will talk about how the /ou/ spelling pattern can sound the same as the /ow/ spelling pattern.  Next week we will talk about antonyms and what makes pairs of words antonyms.

Reading - We will finish up our discussions of non-fiction text and the characteristics that come with non-fiction books.

Writing - We are almost done with our non-fiction writing unit and we will continue to talk about how non-fiction writing can differ from writing fiction pieces.

Math

Learners will partition 2D shapes into equal parts and create specific 2D shapes. We will learn to describe how to partition a shape.

Science

EXCITING NEWS.... the CHICK EGGS are here!! Over the next few weeks learners will dive into different habits to explore the weather, plants, and animals that can be observed. We will also explore what it means for animals to have adaptations and how those special features help the animal survive in their habitat. Lastly, we will observe and study the life cycles of animals like chicks, frogs, and many more!! One of students most cherished spring memories in 1st grade is that they get to watch in real time the life cycle of a chick. Keep an eye out on future blogs to see how things are going! This particular life cycle takes about 21 days.

Social Studies

Learners will understand what it means to be financially responsible. We will make connections to how in life things cost money and how we can prepare and keep our spending within in a budget. This particular unit students will make great connections to math and their most recent unit on money.

Great Information
To Know For The Year
  • Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar.  Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior.  Many times, the children forget.  If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day.  If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment.  Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
  • Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.

Teacher Emails

The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email.  Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

1A Mrs. Vincenzo (language arts teacher)   lvincenzo@coppellisd.com

1B Mrs. Brown (science and social studies teacher)   ebrown@coppellisd.com

1C Mrs. Sork (math teacher)   msork@coppellisd.com

School Lunches

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.  If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval. Please fill out a form in the office for any visitors other than who is listed as guardians in your child's record.

Dismissal

If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher.  Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent.  Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message.  If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.

Birthday Treats

We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.  If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients.  Please send the treats to our school nurse.  She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class.  These treats will be eaten at school.  Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning.

Volunteering

If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check.  The sooner the better!  You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year.  You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
