St. Ann’s Catholic Parish is once again sponsoring Thanksgiving basket deliveries (or a pickup option at St Ann’s Church if you prefer). This program provides families in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The baskets will be delivered to your home the weekend before Thanksgiving, so it is critically important that an adult representing the family be at the home between the hours of Noon and 4PM on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 22nd, 2024.
Please fill out this form with all information requested. Please contact Nurse Crenshaw if you have any questions. kcrenshaw@coppellisd.com

Language Arts
- Phonics - Next week will be a review week of short vowels. We will not have a spelling pretest or a spelling test. Great short vowel work everyone!
- Reading - Next week we will continue to learn strategies to help solve tricky words while increasing our reading stamina. We are also working on reading our snap words in a "snap". Can your child read all 13 of our snap words? Our first set of first grade snap words are: here, went, said, run, let, say, then, saw, they, but, us, his, yes.
- Writing - We will continue our work with narrative stories. We have learned to write about a small moment of time and determine which parts of the small moments are the most important to write about. We use transition words to help move our story along. We are also learning about topic sentences and closing sentences.
Math
We will use various strategies to address addition problems that involve two or three numbers. Furthermore, we will introduce subtraction strategies while simultaneously practicing our addition methods.
Math Take-Home Activity
These activities can be done during a walk, in the car, at bedtime—anytime! Have fun with your child and be amazed by what they know about numbers!
Number Practice
Help your child practice counting to 120 by ones and by tens to reinforce their number skills!
Play "Guess My Number"!
Below are some suggestions, but feel free to come up with your own clues:
- I am thinking of an even number. It is greater than 17 and less than 19. What number am I thinking of?
- I am thinking of a number with 2 tens and 3 ones. What number am I thinking of?
- I am thinking of a number that is 10 more than 22. What number am I thinking of?
Enjoy guessing and creating your own clues!
Fun math videos to watch with your child:

I can explain what the word government means. I can also identify the leadership role at the city (mayor), state (governor), and country (president) level. We will also begin to look at what it means to vote and how voting is done in connections with elections but also when trying to make decisions around different types of communities.

- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
Beginning next Friday, on October 4th, immediate families will be able to eat lunch with their child at school on Fridays.
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria. If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be eaten at school. Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
