Weekly Announcements

St. Ann’s Catholic Parish is once again sponsoring Thanksgiving basket deliveries (or a pickup option at St Ann’s Church if you prefer). This program provides families in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The baskets will be delivered to your home the weekend before Thanksgiving, so it is critically important that an adult representing the family be at the home between the hours of Noon and 4PM on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 22nd, 2024.
Please fill out this form with all information requested. Please contact Nurse Crenshaw if you have any questions. kcrenshaw@coppellisd.com
- What is your favorite subject in school? What do you love about it?
- What are you good at?
- What are you trying to learn and be better at?
Language Arts
- Phonics - Next week will continue our study of long vowels using silent /e/. We will concentrate on the long vowel /i/. We are also working on blending sounds to make a word (CCVC and CVCC and CVCe) and segment words into individual phonemes (CCVC and CVCC and CVCe). c=consonant, v=vowel, e=silent e.
- Reading - Your child should be able to read our first set of first grade snap words in a "snap". Our words were: here, went, said, run, let, say, then, saw, they, but, us, his, yes. We will begin on our second list of snap words next week. You can find them on the orange paper that will be given at parent-teacher conference.
- Writing - We had a last minute change this past week and we did some fun October themed writing so next week we will begin our writing unit on writing reviews. as well as some more halloween writing!
Math
We will develop fluency with fact families. For instance, if 7 + 8 = 15, then 8 + 7 also equals 15, while 15 - 8 gives us 7, and 15 - 7 results in 8. We will start tackling word problems that involve finding unknown results.
Math Take-Home Activity
These activities can be done during a walk, in the car, at bedtime—anytime! Have fun with your child and be amazed by what they know about numbers!
Word Problems
Encourage your child to tackle a problem by making it engaging with a personal twist. For instance, "We visited Target and picked up some Pokemon cards. I handed 3 to your brother, and now I have 7 left. How many cards did I start with?"
Number Practice
Help your child practice counting to 120 by ones, tens, and fives to reinforce their number skills! Let's work together to build a strong foundation in math that will help us in all areas of life. Happy counting!
Fun math videos to watch with your child:
Science
- heat-a condition of being warm or hot
- energy- the ability to do work
- melt-to change a substance from solid to liquid
- cool-to lose heat
- reverse-to change something to an opposite state
- States of Matter- determining if an object is a solid, liquid, or gas by observing characteristics.
- patriotic-showing love for your country
- symbol- somethings that represents another thing or place
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval. Please fill out a form in the office for any visitors other than who is listed as guardians in your child's record.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria. If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be eaten at school. Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
