October 25 - 8:00am Red Ribbon Week Parade in the front of the school. We would love to see you at the parade route in the front of our school. Wear red today!
October. 25 - Jack-o-lantern Jog during specials (12:30 - 1:20). Parents are welcome!
October 31 - Just a quick note to remind everyone that TCE does NOT dress up in costumes for school. Fun halloween t-shirts and colors are great!
Weekly Announcements

- As the temperature gets cooler we are seeing a lot of jackets for recess. Please write your child's name in the tag of the jacket in case it gets lost or left at recess. Thank you!
- Red Ribbon Week is October 21-25, 2024. As a campus, TCE will focus on making healthy choices during this week. Life is A Movie, Film Drug Free.™" was selected as this year's Red Ribbon Week theme by National Family Partnership because it inspires individuals to play their part in fostering safe, healthy, and drug-free communities. From healthcare professionals to educators, parents, and beyond, the theme underscores the collective impact achievable through dedication and commitment.
St. Ann’s Catholic Parish is once again sponsoring Thanksgiving basket deliveries (or a pickup option at St Ann’s Church if you prefer). This program provides families in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The baskets will be delivered to your home the weekend before Thanksgiving, so it is critically important that an adult representing the family be at the home between the hours of Noon and 4PM on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 22nd, 2024.

- What are some of your new sight words that you are learning?
- What does silent /e/ do to a vowel?
- Create an addition fact for your child. Encourage them to come up with three related facts of their own. Then, ask them what they think a "Fact Family" represents.
Language Arts
- Phonics - Next week we will continue our long vowel study of silent /e/ with the vowel long /o/. We are becoming excellent spellers in first grade! We are also working on breaking apart CCVC and CVCC words into individual sounds. In reading we will also discuss how to use word parts to decode words.
- Reading - We have started our new set of snap words. It is the second set of words that were sent home at conferences (orange paper). Any extra practice you can give at home reading these words is great!
- Writing - We will use our writing skills to reflect on books that we read as well as write reviews on things that we love in order to persuade others.
Math
We will solve result-unknown word problems. We will continue to decompose a number up to 100 more than one way as well as work on our addition and subtraction strategies. We will practice skip counting to 120 by tens and fives.
Math Take-Home Activity
These activities can be done during a walk, in the car, at bedtime—anytime! Have fun with your child and be amazed by what they know about numbers!
Fact Family Flashcards
Create flashcards with sets of numbers that make up fact families (for example 3, 4, 7 ). On one side write the numbers, and on the other, list the four related equations (for example 3 + 4 = 7, 4 + 3 = 7, 7 - 3 = 4, 7 - 4 = 3). Shuffle the cards and have fun quizzing each other or playing memory games to match equations with their corresponding fact family numbers.
Word Problems
Encourage your child to tackle a problem by making it engaging with a personal twist. For instance, "We visited Target and picked up some Pokemon cards. I handed 3 to your brother, and now I have 7 left. How many cards did I start with?"
Number Practice
Help your child practice counting to 120 by ones, tens, and fives to reinforce their number skills! Let's work together to build a strong foundation in math that will help us in all areas of life. Happy counting!

Science

- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.

The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval. Please fill out a form in the office for any visitors other than who is listed as guardians in your child's record.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria. If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be store bought and in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be eaten at school. Please have all treats brought to school first thing in the morning.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
